Saint Irenaeus, was born between 120 and 140 AD in Smyrna, Asia Minor, now modern-day İzmir, Turkey. He grew up in a Christian family and was profoundly influenced by Polycarp, the Bishop of Smyrna, who was a direct disciple of the Apostle John.
