A lament for the many
who lost their lives—
in wildfires and tornadoes,
in earthquakes and landslides,
beneath the fury
of an untamed Earth.
A lament for the many
left behind—
in disaster and fear,
in uncertainty,
without shelter,
without home.
The Earth trembles.
Mountains awaken.
The skies unleash their hail.
Oceans rise in tsunamis.
The ground opens beneath us.
And still,
amid the sorrow,
we remain.
Life is not a destination.
It is a bridge—
a brief passage
from one shore to another,
a calling to care,
to comfort,
to serve.
In service of humanity.
In reverence for nature.
In gratitude to the Earth
that carries us all.
